Product Description

Our exclusive quick ratio steering box kits for the 2002. These are exact copies or replicas of the original steering boxes in the way they function and operate (with the exception of the RHD because there was never a factory option for RHD quick ratio boxes). All the pieces are new, so say, “bye-bye” to your old sloppy worn out box.

The factory 177 or 155 quick ratio box featured 2.9 turns lock-to-lock, same as our new kits. The standard box (171) has 3.5 turns lock-to-lock for comparison.

Our kits include:

x1 Worm Gear

x1 Roller Gear w/ Needle Bearing, Shaft, and Shims

x2 Worm Gear Ball Bearings w/ Races

x2 Shaft Seals

x1 Cover Gasket

x2 Bronze Shaft Bearings

x1 Set of Side Cover Shims

Please pay close attention to the options. The factory 2002 quick ratio boxes did not have all the same internals as the standard boxes.

1. LHD Conversion: This will convert your standard left-hand drive steering box into a quick ratio box! Both gears need to be replaced and are not interchangeable with standard gears.

2. RHD Conversion: This will convert your standard right-hand drive steering box into a quick ratio box! Both gears need to be replaced and are not interchangeable with standard gears.

3. LHD Quick Ratio Repair: This will repair your factory quick ratio left-hand drive steering box (commonly referred to as the 177 or 155 box). The gears in this kit are not interchangeable with standard gears or gears from our other kits.

4. LHD Standard Ratio Repair: This will repair your factory standard ratio steering box. The gears in this kit are not interchangeable with other gears from other rebuild kits. Original gears only.

***NOTE*** Some of these pieces are extremely difficult to remove/install and may need special tools or require welding. Especially the roller bearing shaft and the bronze shaft bearings. These will require professional installation and probably can’t be done with basic tools found in your garage. The bronze bearings, for instance, if you choose to replace them will need sizing. For roller bearing shaft removal/installation see here.
Additional steering box repair instructions can be found in the Factory Repair Manual for 2002’s or “Blue Book”.
