August 2012 - Jorge Méndez - 2002 street/track car
1975 BMW 2002 VIN 3699772
This car is what I call my Vintage Racer, it really is intended for mixed street/track use. I like to drive it on Sunday mornings and I take it to the local BMW meetings. This car means a lot to me, since I was a teenager I dreamed about building a car like this, almost 20 years later I finally made it! I hope you all like it. Best regards from Guatemala City!
"I race this car in Vintage Racing Club Guatemala, we are a group of friends that have a passion about Vintage cars. We gather pre-1975 cars mostly 4 cylinders that were the most popular back in the late 60's and early 70's in Guatemala City. Our goal is to provide a time and a proper and safe space so that Vintage race car owners have an opportunity to show the public what their cars are capable of, as well as a revival of a race class lost in time. We run two classes: GTU for cars with 4 cylinder engines up to 2,000 cc, and GTO for cars with 4, 6 or 8 cylinders from 2,001cc up to 5,000cc. The regulation allows almost every available mod for our cars from any compression ratio pistons, any camshaft, any bore-stroke configuration, any size of double carbs, pertronix, MSD, brakes, etc except for non-factory fuel injection, race-slick tires (we are allowed a minimum 160TW tires).
My 2011 results were:
Round 2: 1st place in GTO class and 1st place overall.
Round 3: 3rd place in class and 3rd place overall.
Round 5: 1st place in class and 1st place overall.
In 2012 I have raced only Round 1:
2nd place overall and 2nd place in class.
Round 4 is to be held on july 1st for which I'm aiming 1st place with the help of my friends from IE!
This 2012 year is very special for us because we have been growing in number and preference among the public, and because of that the local racing authority included us in the National Racing Championship, and they also asked us to be for a special appearance at the Central American Championship as well as the "Gua-Sal" which means Guatemala and El Salvador, 4 rounds: two here and two in El Salvador's racing track called "El Jabalí" (spanish for The Boar). Well, I'll keep you updated with the results!
Our race track is called Autodromo Pedro Cofiño, only 2.4km long but very demanding: http://www.autodromopedrocofino.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=150
