April 2013 - Ian Thomas - 2002
Our car of the month for this month is Ian Thomas' 2002. The car has a racing history in VARA out of Southern California, however, Ian bought the car and has completely gone through it making it one of the nicest 2002 race cars we've seen in a while.
He has plenty of IE bits including:
ENGINE: HD rockers, DCOE manifold, 302 billet cam, valves, dual springs, urethane bushings/mounts, and plenty of other tidbits.
SUSPENSION: Ire. Eng. Front coilover setup, race rear springs, all urethane bushings, motor mounts, etc.
In Ian's words...
"The car is setup for B Sedan, CACC is the sanctioning body up here in western Canada, we generally have 5 to 6 Vintage weekends of racing during the summer months on Sundays only, we get 2- 20 minute races on the Sunday. This year our big Historic weekend is May 25/26 we get quite a few cars up from Washington and Oregon from Sovren. Most years there are over 100 Vintage cars for that weekend.
The Head was built and ported by a local chap Lance Hayward who has a company called "Hayward Performance" he specializes in head work only.
The Motor was built by another Race Engine shop called "High Performance Engines" they build race engines for drag racing and sports car racing. The engine has 11:1 compression forged pistons.
The car weighs 2115 Lbs without driver, at the moment it has TII front struts and calipers running a solid Rotor. It has the stock drums on the rears, it still has a 4 speed transmission, hopefully I will soon change to the 5 speed for the longer SCCA tracks in Seattle and Portland."
